The virtual reunion of the Teutonic Order - Finally!

A great example on how our work and technical knowledge about document digitization helps to reverse the fragmentation of archives that has been result of historic events:

The City Archive Ludwigsburg (DE) has, in cooperation with ICARUS and within the project "Virtuelles deutsches Urkundennetzwerk" (Virtual German Charters Network), started to digitize the charters of the Teutonic Order.

Good to know: Corresponding documents stored in the Central Archive of the Teutonic Order in Vienna (AT) as well as in the State Archive Marburg (DE) have also already been digitized by ICARUS — The documents will be online on Monasterium.net in the course of this year!

Die Veranstaltungsreihe „Digitale Bibliothek“ dient dem Erfahrungsaustausch, der Koordination und Kooperation zwischen Kultur- und Wissenschaftsseinrichtungen in dem Bereich digitale Bibliotheken. Mit Vorträgen, Workshops und einer Posterausstellung bietet die Tagung ein Diskussionsforum für die spezifischen Herausforderungen, denen sich die Einrichtungen bei der Gestaltung und Etablierung moderner Online-Wissensspeicher stellen müssen.

Presentation of Monasterium.net, Vienna City Hall (AT), 28.03.2012

Within the general assembly of the Vienna Historical Society (Verein für Geschichte der Stadt Wien), Karl Heinz and AdelheidKrah will give a presentation on "Monasterium - An innovative contribution to researching the history of the city of Vienna".
After the general introduction of Monasterium.net by Karl Heinz, Adelheid Krah will specify the relevant research findings for the city´s history enabled by Monasterium.net.

Venue will be the City Hall´s Heraldry Hall on March 28th, 7 pm. The presentation will be held in German.

Presentation of the ICARUS archival network, Regional Archives Maribor in Radenci (SI), 29.03.2012

From March 28th to 30th the Regional Archives Maribor will organise its annual international conference in Radenci (SI) on technical and field related problems of traditional and electronic archiving.
On March 29th Karl Heinz and Caroline Maximoff will introduce the ICARUS archival network and its various projects.

Workshop "Document digitization and Medieval Studies", Hessian State Archives (DE), 25.05.2012

Under the trend-setting aegis of Dr. Manfred Thaller (University of Cologne) Daniel Jeller will give a lecture on "How to efficiently and resourcefully make use of digitization technology" at the expert panel discussion "Document digitization and Medieval Studies" held at the Hessian State Archives in Marburg on May 25th.
The workshop accompanies the DFG project "The virtual German document network" and is free of admission. 


 

Lecture "New insights into Armenian ink and papers" Horn (AT), 18.04.2012

On April 18th, 2012 - 7 pm - Dr. Patricia Engel will give a lecture on “New insights into Armenian ink and papers” as the world-wide oldest Christian manuscripts are threatened by decay.

The lecture will be held in German at the European Research Center for Book and Paper Restoration (Wienerstarße 2, 1. floor, A - 3580 Horn), is free of admission and welcomes the interested public and scientists alike.

The venue is organised in cooperation with the European Research Center for Book and Paper Restoration (AT), the Mesrop Mashtots Institute Matenadaran in Eriwan (ARM), the University of Zadar (HR), the Academy of Fine Arts (AT) and the Austrian Academy of Sciences (AT).

 

ICARUS at the APEx Kick-Off Meeting in The Hague (NL), 12.-15.03.2012

From March 12th-15th, 2012 the APEx Kick-Off Meeting took place at the Nationaal Archief in The Hague…and ICARUS is part of the team!

It was great to meet all the other participants face to face and the conference was inspiring and motivating. 3 days full of energizing dialogues, brain storming and conversations complemented by a delightful and informative tour through the treasures of the Nationaal Archief. We very much appreciated the hospitality of the hosting institution and the beautiful city The Hague!

ICARUS will be mainly involved with Usability & Web 2.0, Tools & Support and Dissemination & Training activities – We hope our experience and knowledge will be a vital resource for the program.

All pepped up we can´t wait to venture out and put concepts into action! APEx is a remarkable project and we are extremely proud to be a part of it!
